After navigating our lives to age
24 without meeting that special person, we were both ready to graduate and go
out into the world as single professionals. That was not to be. During the
spring of 2009, we were both taking our final semester of courses in graduate
school and ended up sitting fifteen feet from each other in class. We took notice of each other early on,
but neither of us made a move.
As luck would have it, near the end
of the semester we ended up working in the same group for a project that
involved a day of field work. We'll always have fond memories of that warm spring
afternoon that started in the woods at the Arboretum, moved to a sunny field in
the country, and ended with beers and pizza at the Union Terrace. Throughout
"Well Day" (we were performing tests on groundwater wells), we were
noticing and becoming increasingly interested in each other. Dave bought Meg a
coffee after class the next week, and by early summer we were mostly inseparable.
Summer 2009 saw Meg nurse Dave back
to health after a terrible bike accident. We spent ten months apart (but without
missing a single night of talking on the phone) while Meg was at Wolf Ridge
Environmental Learning Center on the North Shore of Lake Superior. In
June 2010, Meg returned to Madison to finish school and share a home with Dave.
With jobs that we both enjoy, competitive endeavors (cycling for Dave, rugby
and hockey for Meg) to keep us busy, and a house in one of our favorite
neighborhoods in Madison, we couldn't be happier or more optimistic about our
future together.
Thank you for sharing this amazing
time with us!
